Yes. To some extend. But a vast majority of customers isn’t going to walk out. It’s a matter of motivation: how much do you want to buy from this specific merchant? My hair guy only accepts Girocard for example, but I am not going to switch to someone else. I don’t care, the quality of the service is 100 times more important to me than payment schemes here. If I would be in the situation of relying solely on my Tomorrow account, I just would pay with cash. I am all for cashless payments, but the product/service will always be the most important for me, and I am not interested in educating merchants about their business decisions.

The acceptance of debit cards wasn’t driven by early N26 customers in 2015 walking out of Aldi. It was driven by Aldi accepting more cards.
