The only annoying thing is that saving are calculated as part of spendings. It’s confusing. If I put aside 500euro, I still want to see it in the „savings“ but I didn’t „spend“ it so it shouldn’t be part of spendings.
The idea behind is that you want to understand where your money goes.
You set a goal, let’s say you want to invest 20% of your available income. In budgeting terms, you move (spend) these 20% from your income into a savings account. „Spending“ reflects this transaction.
This is how YNAB works as well, where you „give every dollar a job“. The goal is not to keep total spending low. It’s to know where the money goes and to spend it in part for something that is an investment into your future.
